RODWELL

ARTISTS

I grew up in London and studied at CDT then Chelsea Art College where I specialised in set design for television and film. I have designed and built large projects for clients such as the Brighton Festival, theatre and opera companies. Her work has been featured in the national press, on television and radio.

I admire artists of the late 19th and early 20th century particularly so of the female impressionist and of course her taste widen considerably after completing an OU course on art history. The subject matter is often  abstract in its original concept and the most important aspect is therefore in finding the right image. This conceptual stage is followed by the subject matter being brought alive by the practical application of design skills with an instinctive touch of colour and tone to arrive at the final composition that shapes are the background constant to all her work, but the colours invariably change as the painting evolves.

My background in theatre means that I love to build as much as paint, in fact, I tend to think in 3D and  convert images to 2D. I have an affinity with pattern and adore visual puns. My work has been shown in many forms and contexts and recent exhibitions in South Dorset have been consistently successful. A founder member of the Rodwell Artists and a selection paintings are on continuous display at the Hotel Rembrandt in Weymouth. I am also involved Artwey CIC a company set up with the purpose of promoting works  and artists in Weymouth & Portland area. Together with the other directors of Artwey CIC organised the first Artwey Open Studio  event in 2009.
