BIOGRAPHY

Di Gilliver works from first impressions. She draws her inspiration from something that has touched her, and this is more often than not an aspect of the natural environment. Her original images frequently highlight an element of symmetry, reflection or repetition in a scene, and she uses a fine balance of colours to harmonise with the composition.

There is a sense of transition in the subject matter Di chooses to address, suggesting that the finest details have been considered, almost atomistically, and undergone a process of narrative to arrive at the final image. Her technique is clearly attuned to this approach, and her pictures invariably and interestingly suggest a kind of completeness.

Di works in a variety of media, predominantly watercolours and oils. Many of her pictures have a clear focus on the essential character of animals and landscapes, as well as scenes on the water, and she successfully achieves a charged tonal quality that makes her work stand out. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, where her pictures are consistently popular with visitors. She is often asked to undertake private commissions, and is also happy to work from a brief in this way.

Di Gilliver also exhibits with the Rodwell Artists, and a selection of her work is on display throughout the year at the Rembrandt Hotel in Weymouth.
